Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Wiltshire Mind. Their time, compassion and commitment enable us to provide vital mental health support across our communities, and we simply could not do what we do without them.
Volunteering is an opportunity to make a real difference while developing new skills, building confidence, enhancing your CV and improving your own wellbeing through connection and purpose.
We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment and actively encourage applications from people from all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience of mental health challenges.
Many of our roles involve working with vulnerable adults and therefore require an enhanced DBS check.
Counselling Volunteers (Adult Service)
We offer counselling placements for both trainee and qualified counsellors who are passionate about supporting adults experiencing mental health difficulties.
Placements typically require a commitment of a minimum of three client sessions per week for up to one year and are based in Trowbridge or held online. Counselling volunteers receive regular management support, access to fortnightly group supervision and become part of a supportive and experienced counselling team.
Applicants should be members of the BACP or working towards accreditation requirements. An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.
Wellbeing Service volunteers
Our Wellbeing Services provide safe, welcoming spaces where people can connect, share experiences and receive support from others who understand.
As a volunteer, you will work alongside facilitators to help create an inclusive and supportive environment for attendees, whether through our online wellbeing sessions or community-based initiatives such as The Open Space in Corsham.
Volunteer roles may include:
- Welcoming participants and helping them feel comfortable and included.
- Supporting the smooth running of sessions and activities.
- Encouraging connection and conversation between attendees.
- Assisting with creative, outdoor or wellbeing-focused activities.
- Helping to uphold group agreements, including confidentiality and respectful communication.
No previous experience is necessary; we are looking for compassionate, reliable individuals who are willing to get involved. We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience of mental health challenges, recognising the valuable insight and understanding this can bring.
Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one session per week and are offered regular supervision and ongoing support. An enhanced DBS check is required.
Trustees (Volunteers)
Our Trustees are volunteers who provide strategic leadership and governance for the charity, helping to shape the future direction of Wiltshire Mind and ensure we continue to deliver high-quality services to our communities.
The Board meets monthly and works closely with the senior leadership team to support the charity’s growth and sustainability.
We are always keen to hear from people with a wide range of professional skills, experiences and perspectives. We particularly welcome applications from individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges and from groups that are currently underrepresented within the voluntary sector.
An enhanced DBS check is required for Trustee positions.
